i need to talk about tennis shoes

i'm having a problem. since i've apparently turned into a runner when i workout... wait, let's be serious. i'm more of a speed walker slash jogger. i don't really "run" per se. anyway... my feet are freaking killing me in both pairs of sneakers i own.

one pair makes my feet feel like they're on fire, they get so freaking hot. and they squish my toes together and eventually start to really fucking hurt while i'm running.

the other pair is lighter and more breathable, but also hurts my toes.

maybe my feet are defective?

since i've never really had to shop for good running shoes, i have no idea what i'm supposed to be looking for. how should they feel on my feet? what should they do? and how do you know that they'll work in the long run just from trying them on for 10 seconds in a store??

i need running shoe help, advice, etc!

thanks loves. :)

Go to a store that specializes in finding shoes for runners. In the Twin Cities we have a store called The Running Room. The shoes are only slightly more expensive than what you find at department stores and it's worth it. Bring in your old shoes and they'll take a look at those, watch you jog around the room, and then bring out a few pairs of sneakers, all of which I guarantee will work better than what you have now, I promise. Those people are trained and really know their business!

Do yourself a favor and go to your local running specialty store. They will be able to tell you what your foot needs. The wrong shoes will cause you pain, shin splints, or worse, so its well worth the trip to find out and save you the hassle of buying the wrong shoes.

I agree with both of the ladies above. You have to find your local running store and let them work wonders.

Yep all of the above and you may need Orthotics. I need them even walking so a running shoe or store that specializes in Orthotics can tell you if you need them. My feet always hurt until I got them.

Everybody's feet are different. Stores can help (sometimes if you get a good sales person). For me it has been trial and error. I have a lot of runners in my family and we all prefer different shoes. Right now I have Nike Free Run and love them ... but that's just me.

Do you have a Running Room? They'll "fit" you for the perfect pair of sneakers.

I just got the Reebok Runtones and I have to say they are the most comfortable running shoes ever!! I got a super deal on them but you can always get them at Famous Footwear or online. They're normally $90 retail. You should seriously try them out. They rock!

I went to a triathlon type store and had them measure my gait, stride and everything. They recommended shoes that were completely out of my price range and all the shoes they had available at the store were outrageously overpriced so I suggest going in and having that done and shop online!
