30 day, i am getting thicker?

you know the whole world is doing the 30 day shred, right? you're probably tired of reading about it.. especially if you're NOT doing it.

suffer through this one, k? cause maybe you can help me out even if you're NOT doing the shred.

for reals. i feel like my legs are getting BIGGER. not muscular (even though they feel stronger) but THICKER. my gf meg has me convinced that this happens at first... that sometimes you get bigger and then you start to lose or tone up.

so i'm asking you land of blogs. is she lying to me so that i'll bust out of my jeans, or is she right?!

I'm only on day 4, but I feel pretty think.

Then again, that is why I started this crap in the first place.

Hang in there. You have to be burning calories.

I think your friend is mostly right. The stronger your muscles get, the more they'll burn fat as they recover from exercise. But that won't happen over night (or within the first week). It will happen, though.

I just got my DVD in the mail yesterday...should be interesting to see how it goes. Good luck!

I'm not doing the shred, but since I started walking for an hour and a half every day for the last 5 months, I'm noticing the same thing. Jeans tighter, muffin top larger. I'm not eating exhorbitant amounts of food, either. Husband says this happens when you work out, but jeez.

I have no idea...I keep saying I'm going to start this but honestly - so far all I've done is WATCH the program.

You know, you have to preview the exercise program before you start it, right? LOL!

Keep on keepin on, I'm sure it'll come off! You're doing the right thing!

I'm not doing the 30 day thing, but I started a pilates/weight class and that happened to me. after the first 6 weeks, my jeans got way too tight, in the waist and in the thighs. However, I'm on month 3 now, and things are fitting again. and nicer than before. stick with it, it gets better.

Hmmm...That seems strange to me too..maybe you are just building muscle or maybe you are the Incredible Hulk! Do you feel angry when you Shred? :)

Shred it, kooks!

That's all I have to say. :)

Babe, you might want to consider your diet (not "diet" but exactly what you're eating). You burn more calories when building muscles, but not if you're consistently still eating unhealthy foods.

Another thing to consider (which I neglected to tell you, sorry bout that) is your body type. It might just be natural for your body to bulk up when doing certain exercises!

For me personally, I always feel like I bulk up in the beginning and after working out and eating healthily on a regular basis, then I start toning up and slimming down. This takes a minimum of 4-6 weeks for me. When that time comes, I feel the difference especially with my clothing.

Just hang in there and try to do this 5x a week like you originally planned and 4-6 weeks will be here in no time. Then you'll see how different your body feels!

Hmmm... Megaland's points are good.

I also don't feel like my body has changed tremendously since the beginning in terms of trimming down a lot, though I can feel I'm getting stronger (can do more pushups, etc.).

I think the change in diet is key. I eat pretty healthy but sweets are my Achilles heel. Still working on it! -Christine

So I quit the damn DVD already...LOL. I'm going on vacation for 5 days so what's the point? I got to Day 10. But I am planning to start up again when I get back along w/ the SBD. It's only been 3 days and I'm back to flab again. Sucks getting older.
